Access/Mini-Access (“Last Mile”/”Last Inch”)

By employing power line communications (PLC) modems, electric utilities and utility service providers can deliver telecommunication services and a variety of other “last mile ” access applications, including Internet distribution, video-on-demand, audio, voice, alarm monitoring, and energy management services, over the existing low and medium voltage power grid.

Fiber optic infrastructure can now be better utilized using PLC extension to FTTH/FTTB/FTTO (Fiber To The Home/Building/Office) solutions. The connectivity provided by the fiber optic connection can now be shared by several apartments/offices in the same building over the existing electrical wiring.
