About PLC (Power Line Communications)
Phrases like "Invisible Wiring Communication"
and "No New Wire Communication" refer to Power
Line Communication (PLC). PLC utilizes
infrastructure present almost everywhere, both
in the indoor and outdoor environments,
eliminating the unnecessary expense and
inconvenience of new wires or antenna-based
networks.
While many have attempted to use the power line
as a communication medium in the past, it has
not lived up to expectations, earning a
reputation for questionable reliability. The
fact is that the power line is an extremely
difficult and noisy communications medium,
characterized by several unpredictable and
strong forms of interference. Every appliance
that is connected to an outlet contributes line
interference, which can be approximated as
Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). Dimmer
switches, motorized electrical appliances and
computers, also introduce pulse interference
into the communications environment, making it a
perilous channel for non-robust communications.
Fast fading also corrupts power line
communicationd channels, which have non-flat
frequency responses and suffer from
unpredictable jamming and the presence of
carrier wave signal interference. All the
forgoing make it exceedingly difficult to ensure
reliable power line communication and help
explain the difficulties technologies have had
in delivering reliable power line communication.
Reliable, low cost Power Line Communication
(PLC) technology enables ubiquitous
narrowband and
broadband applications for the
residential and business markets. PLC opens a
whole new world of business opportunities to
appliance and electric devices manufacturers,
utilities and service providers, with no need to
run and install new cables or jacks. Every
electrical outlet is now a communication node,
part of a PLC network.
Power line communication and networking provides
the benefits of having a wired connection while
maintaining the flexibility of ubiquitous
connection.
Yitrans patented and patent pending solutions
to the problems of power line communication

problems that plague the power line and offer
superior performance over this harsh medium.
